It nurtures various sciences, of which, medicine is an important branch of it.Īs a system Siddha is the basic stepping stone to Alchemy, Astrology, Medicine, Tamil Literature, Varma, Philosophy, Yoga, Meditation, Rejuvenation, Immortality, Magic and Mantra. Siddha is not merely a science but a system by itself. Nandi then passed this knowedge to the 9 Siddhars (Navanathar) who in turn passed it on to the 18 siddhars. He then imparted his knowledge to his consort Goddess Parvati, who in turn imparted it to her son Lord Muruga or Subramania and was later passed on to Nandi Thevar. Lord Shiva was a great Siddhar of his time and is considered to be the first Siddhar.

Siddha Thirumoolar is a Grandfather of Siddhas whose original name yogic name was Sundarar Nathar. Those who attained the Ashta Siddhis were termed as Siddhars. Thus Siddhi is the attainment of the Ashta Siddhis or Ashtama Siddhis ( 8 supernatural powers). The word “Siddha” comes from the word “Siddhi” which means “To Attain Perfection”, “Heavenly Bliss” or “An Object To be Attained”.
