“Man is graded as the Microcosm” and the “Universe as the Macrocosm”. Knowledge of Nature constitutes the true philosophy. Any change in Nature causes a change in Man’s life. The basic principle brings out the close contact between Man and Nature. It nurtures various sciences, of which, medicine is an important branch of it.Īs a system Siddha is the basic stepping stone to Alchemy, Astrology, Medicine, Tamil Literature, Varma, Philosophy, Yoga, Meditation, Rejuvenation, Immortality, Magic and Mantra. Siddha is not merely a science but a system by itself. Nandi then passed this knowedge to the 9 Siddhars (Navanathar) who in turn passed it on to the 18 siddhars. He then imparted his knowledge to his consort Goddess Parvati, who in turn imparted it to her son Lord Muruga or Subramania and was later passed on to Nandi Thevar. Lord Shiva was a great Siddhar of his time and is considered to be the first Siddhar.
They were endowed with highly cultured intellectual and spiritual faculties and supernatural powers. Hence they can be rightly termed as the greatest scientist of their time. His time of existence possibly goes 7,000 years back. Ask six historians when Tirumoolar lived, and you may well get six answers. There is no agreement on when and where he was born and when he lived. The Siddhars are a class of Semi divine beings of great purity, self-discipline and holiness considered to be dwelling in the regions between the sky and the earth and were popular writers in Tamil in all branches of knowledge. Siddha Thirumoolar is a Grandfather of Siddhas whose original name yogic name was Sundarar Nathar. Those who attained the Ashta Siddhis were termed as Siddhars. Thus Siddhi is the attainment of the Ashta Siddhis or Ashtama Siddhis ( 8 supernatural powers). The word “Siddha” comes from the word “Siddhi” which means “To Attain Perfection”, “Heavenly Bliss” or “An Object To be Attained”.
